Here are some of Australia's best motorkhana drivers doing difficult tests like Hopkirk and Paddy. The handbrake turns, front throws and rear throws might look easy, and the drivers' mistakes look glaring, but the manouvres are difficult to do accurately and once you get one wrong, it's hard to get back on track without losing time.

Here are 6 very different cars doing the Hopkirk motorkhana test about 1999 or 2000. The fastest run is last. Play video

Here are some small fuzzy clips of tests by motorkhana specials at the 2007 Australian Motorkhana Championship starting with 2007 Champion Andrew Collier doing the Hopkirk test in his Renault special, second placed Scott Bennett doing the Double Bone test in his Mini special and David Beames in the Delta S Mini special doing the Paddy test.

At the end of the 12 tests to decide the Championship, a Top Ten Shootout was held with $1000 going to the driver having the fastest time on a single run at the Hopkirk test. Andrew Collier took the money, with Scott Bennett 0.01 seconds behind him. You will notice that they drove harder when chasing the cheque!

Sorry about the wind noise - it was howling!

Here is a clearer clip of Aaron Wuillemin on the slippery concrete of the 2008 AMC doing Paddy in 19.34 seconds.

Here is a fuzzy clip of Graham Vanderhoek in a Mitsubishi Magna VRX doing the Paddy test in 26.9 seconds at the 2003 Australian Motorkhana Championship. The best specials did Paddy in 19 seconds at that event, though faster times have been recorded elsewhere. The Magna is a big car for our tight tests - 4.86 metres (15 ft 11 in) long and 1.78 metres (5 ft 10 in) wide and Graham does a good job with an excellent front throw into the finish garage.

Here is a run at the same test by multiple Australian champion David Beames in his Delta S Mini special. David made an error at the end of the reverse slalom and would have been disappointed with his time of 21 seconds.

We also have some video clips from similar events in Europe. The first is a neat run by Irishman Christopher Evans in a Westfield driving in a UK autotest. Then there is a lightened, shortened, lowered Mini, apparently in Portugal. Those fast 360+ degree turns seem to be due to a tricky braking system or differential.
