Victorian Motorkhana Championship

In 2011, the KYB Shock Absorbers Victorian Motorkhana Championship (VMC) had 9 rounds scheduled from February to November – see the Victorian section of the Australian Motorkhana Calendar There is another multiclub motorkhana and khanacross series in Victoria, run by Group 5, which had 10 rounds scheduled in 2011. Schedules are one thing, reality was another. Due to frequent heavy rain, many of the dirt surface events were postponed and cancelled and the VMC became only 8 rounds, two in December. Let's hope we do better in 2012.

A new feature of the 2011 championship series was naming rights sponsorship by KYB Shock Absorbers. The KYB funds were applied to electronic timing equipment, a high quality video and various other marketing items intended to promote KYB and the VMC.

NGK Spark Plugs will be naming rights sponsor for 2012 and we look forward to their participation.

VMC Fastest Test Times by Class have been maintained since 1990 by Brian Shanahan. The production car classes changed before the 2007 season, to reflect the generally larger size of modern producion cars. He also assembled details of the VMC annual outright and class placings back to 1995 and in some cases earlier.

Originally, the VMC was mainly a contest to find a state champion. The Victorian Champions are listed below.

Many other annual awards have been added since it began in 1969 so that the annual awards often total over 30.

Over each year, a points tally is kept for outright, each of the classes, handicap placings, clubs and country rounds. The Victorian Motorkhana Championship (VMC) fraternity holds a Presentation Night where the points leaders and the higher-scoring place-getters in the classes receive trophies for their efforts.

VMC History

The Victorian Motorkhana Championship (VMC) was first held in 1969. The Victorian Motorkhana Panel formulated a Victorian Motorkhana Code consisting of the rules for the conduct of the Championship and layouts of the tests which could be used. The Victorian Code was replaced by the National Motorkhana Code in 1972.

For VMC events, the National Code and Group 4H regulations found in the CAMS Manual, are modified by the Standing Regulations for the Victorian Motorkhana Championship. The VMC Standing Regs include changes to classes, timing methods, penalties, etc. but otherwise follow the National Code and Group 4H .

Test diagrams are now available for download from CAMS as a Motorkhana Test Booklet
